Zohran Mamdani Promises a 'New Era' for New York City in Maiden Speech
During an initial day in office, Zohran Mamdani committed to “reinvent” America's largest city, ushering in “a different age” and an ambitious commencement to his term.
A Groundbreaking Leader
The young political star, who was a relatively obscure state assemblyman, is the city's first Muslim mayor. He additionally marked a milestone by being the inaugural to be take the oath of office using the Qur'an.

As his term starts, Mamdani and his wife will relocate from their Astoria apartment to the stately Gracie Mansion. The previous occupant offered a quirky piece of advice about a reputed resident spirit in the home, which reportedly only haunts those who do not act to “do right by the city.”
Mamdani concluded his speech with a direct statement: “The work has only just begun.”
