Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the top division and handed the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck on two occasions from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had levelled the scores a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, failed to convert a handful of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent stops to guarantee the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising the match official to review the score on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's team into third place in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit six points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: The defender excels in duties at each end of the field

After a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a mere attempts on goal, the manager opted for the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing finishing touch

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have worn off slightly and fans flocked to the exits after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for the manager, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two recognised strikers - had scored just a single goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to add to that miserable record on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, even with having space and time to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have challenged the keeper.

The substitute, as well, failed to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped dangerous balls into the Tottenham box.
